OC Gala 2018

Designed and delivered a formal dinner and charity event for over 200+ first-year residents. The event included a sit-down, family-style dinner, photo-booths, live-music, and a live-auction which raised $600+ for the Canadian Mental Health Association.

The first annual OC Gala aimed to create a sense of community for the residents of Orchard Commons Residence at UBC. The first year was so successful, the following year, the same event was able to have an expanded budget that was twice as big.

Learning Significance

  1. Through leading the planning committee, I helped facilitate the process from start to finish. This involved:
    - reaching out to other colleagues to volunteer to help plan
    - chairing weekly meetings of 5-6 people
    - ideating and designing the theme, branding, and marketing
    - coordinating, purchasing and creating decorations
    - communicating with external partners (e.g., people to donate to the auction, The Canadian Mental Health Association, etc.)

Through this experience, I learned how to start and execute an initiative from scratch as well as the communication and conflict management skills involved in collaborating with a team.
